The Wedding Brigade

Startup50 Consumer Brand

In Startup50 2017: The Wedding Brigade operates on an interesting commission-based business model, bringing together wedding-related content and e-commerce for wedding products and services onto a single platform. The company serves over three lakh monthly users and touched over Rs. 5 crore in gross merchandise value in the last quarter (June – Sept 2017).

Founders: Sanna Vohra

One-stop wedding shop: The Wedding Brigade’s unique proposition is that it aggregates information and service providers for nearly every aspect one needs to consider while planning a wedding. This way, it solves the entire spectrum of challenges for weddings by offering an end-to-end service and that is its biggest differentiator in the space.

Focus on content: The company’s vision is to build India’s leading wedding brand as opposed to being just an aggregator and one of the primary ways it aims to do so is to drive its content. It has a sizable following on social media with over 70,000 followers on Facebook and Instagram combined. It also hosts exclusive collections on its platform, primarily for clothing and jewellery. The Wedding Brigade specialises in curating exclusive collections based on data insights it collects online.

Growth in the near future: The Wedding Brigade’s current strength is 32 people and of this, a dedicated team takes customers to physical venues and bargains on prices.  Typically, the team manages to land a discount of nearly 30 per cent on transactions for customers. It began its offline recruitment in Mumbai and has now spread to New Delhi, Chandigarh and Jaipur. It earns its revenues through a robust commission-based model.

For FY17, the company recorded a topline of Rs. 6.55 crore. Its outlook for annual revenue in FY18 is Rs. 26 crore. The company has been successful in bringing on board investors and in December 2015 it raised a Pre-Series-A of Rs. 3.55 crore from Blume Ventures and other angel investors. In a recent follow-up round, it raised nearly Rs. 5.5 crore from existing investor Blume Ventures, a Singapore-based family office and other angels.
