In Startup50 2017: CueMath was chosen for its approach towards teaching math and serving over 20,000 students through its 2500 partner teachers.

Founded in 2013, Cuemath is a home-based after-school which is built on the idea that Math is a life skill. With a product and distribution model, CueMath is a multi-format math learning program that brings together technology and personal teaching for K8 math to build a strong Math foundation in formative years of learning. Its curriculum has been designed keeping a strong focus on mental aptitude and creative reasoning, along with school curriculum, helping the students become better problem solvers.  

The distribution model involves individuals setting up home-based math learning centres by using Cuemath’s learning system. In the process, the company is enabling its teachers turn into entrepreneurs since they run Cuemath Centers from their homes and apply their math skills. Each student is charged a monthly fee of which Cuemath retains a certain part of the fee and the teacher partner gets the rest as their income.

The company has raised capital from Unitus Seed Fund, Sequoia Capital and has also raised US $19 million from Google’s CapitalG.

Differentiation factors

Learning Math can be difficult for most kids, mainly because of the traditional ways of teaching the subject which encourages kids to rote learn formulae. Cuemath addresses just this through its personalized program that is learning based on discovery and by doing. Every Cuemath Center has only 6 to 8 students in a batch. This self-paced program helps students assimilate concepts at their own pace, making them confident in the subject, one session at a time.

The company currently runs about 2,500 centres educating more than 20,000 students across Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kerala and Pune. It has centres running in over 80 cities including Tier 2 cities of India. It aims to go deep and consolidate in those cities and take the Cuemath program to new cities next year.

Cuemath is focusing on strengthening a child’s math vocabulary. In the light of big data and automation, skills that are extremely important for an individual is the ability to solve complex problems and think analytically. Its long-term vision is to develop a curriculum and build the world’s best math learning program in the most interesting and engaging way through a robust foundation that helps enhance the quality and method of math learning as a life skill.
